Defence School Mentor (DSM) Program

Supporting Defence Families at Holsworthy Public School

What is the DSM Program?

Established in 2002, the DSM Program is designed to minimise the educational and emotional impact of the mobile military lifestyle. The Defence School Mentor provides targeted support to help Defence students settle into school, build friendships, and feel connected—especially during times of transition or parental absence.

Our DSM - Mrs Wood

It is such a privilege to work with the children whose families and caregivers serve our nation. I tell the children I have the best job in the school—and I genuinely mean it. The highlight for me is seeing the Defence students become part of our wonderful school community, forming friendships and connection, helping to build their resilience, and watching them shine.

A Welcoming Hand

Starting a new school can be daunting—but for Defence children, it’s a regular part of life. At Holsworthy Public School, our DSM is a familiar and friendly face to support each child’s journey, making sure they feel valued, safe, and confident every step of the way.
